Grisha Goryachev (*1977) ist einer der wenigen Gitarristen, die die Tradition der Flamenco-Gitarre als Solokonzertinstrument in der Nachfolge wie Ramon Montoya und Sabicas fortsetzen. Grisha debütierte mit 9 Jahren, spielte dann als "Wunderkind" in renommierten Konzertsälen in St. Petersburg, Moskau und Riga und trat regelmässig im sowjetischen Fernsehen auf. Später studierte er klassische Gitarre bei Eliot Fisk in Boston. Nach einer Spanientournee spielte er für Paco de Lucia, der  sich persönlich für sein Künstlervisum für die USA einsetzte. Neben den Werken von Flamencogrößen wie Paco de Lucia, Vicente Amigo und Rafael Riqueni integriert er auch klassisches Repertoire in seine Konzerte. 2006 wurde Grisha zum Fellow beim Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowship ernannt. Seine Youtube-Videos erreichen mittlerweile mehr als 10 Millionen Menschen.

Olaf Van Gonnissen (*1954) war im „Frankfurter Gitarrenduo“ (mit M. Teuchert) in den 70/80er Jahren mit über 100.000 verkauften Schallplatten eines der weltweit erfolgreichsten Gitarrenduos. Neben Vihuela, Barockgitarre und den Instrumenten der Zeit Sors/Giulianis ist er auch in der Spielpraxis der Renaissancelaute bewandert. Er spielte im „Mutare Ensemble Frankfurt“, mit Rosemarie Fendel (Sprache), F. Richter (Klavier) und G. Weyhofen (Mandoline) und war Gründungsmitglied des „World Guitar Ensemble“. Heute spielt er oft im Duo zusammen mit Johannes Monno. Olaf lehrte an der Akademie für Tonkunst Darmstadt und an der Musikhochschule Hamburg und war Mitherausgeber der neuen K. Scheit Edition (UE). Olaf mag Kriminalromane, Comics und franz. Filme. Er liebt deutsche Weiss- und italienische Rotweine und genießt diese gerne bei einem genussvollen Abendessen.

Marco Ramelli (*1984) ist Dozent am TU Dublin Conservatoire und nähert sich der Musik mit Neugier und Forschergeist. Solistisch und als Kammermusiker ist er international in vielen bedeutenden Konzertsälen aufgetreten. Zudem hat er mehrere Alben aufgenommen, darunter die Gitarrenmusik von R. Gerhard und F. Mompou sowie Transkriptionen der Klaviermusik Mompous. Der Gewinn des Kompositionswettbewerbs in Serbien machte ihn auch als Komponisten bekannt. Seine Werke werden von führenden Solisten wie Sean Shibe, Lorenzo Micheli und Andrea De Vitis aufgeführt. Marco organisiert weltweit eine Reihe von Forschungssymposien und ist Mitglied des Lenkungsausschusses des Festival of Music Performance Research (Dublin) und des TU Dublin Research Symposium. Im Jahr 2018 wurde er während der Internationalen Gitarrenkonferenz Michele Pittaluga mit der „Goldenen Gitarre“ ausgezeichnet.

Thomas Müller-Pering (* 1958 in Köln) war Preisträger beim ARD-Wettbewerb 1982 und in Viña del Mar (Chile) 1983. Er bereist seit nunmehr über 30 Jahren für Konzerte und Meisterkurse alle Länder der Welt. Eines seiner letzten Projekte war eine Einladung der ‘Globe Theatre Society’ für Henzes “Royal Winter Music I & II“ nach Los Angeles. Seit 1994 ist er als Professor an der Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt Weimar tätig,wo er seit seiner Pensionierung 2024 auch weiterhin tätig ist. Außerdem war er fast 20 Jahre Dozent an der Universität der Künste in Berlin. Sein unglaublich reichhaltiges Konzertrepertoire reicht über Barock, zu Klassik und spanischer Romantik bis in die Moderne. Was macht Thomas neben Familie und Beruf? „Ich liebe Geschichte, Technik, Biografien, Krimis - vorwiegend skandinavische Autoren - Audiobooks, Sprachen, Kulturen...und ich versuche (bislang vergeblich, Anmerkung T.H.), etwas weniger zu reisen und unterwegs sein zu müssen...“

Masterclasses - the artists

Grisha Goryachev (*1977) is one of the few guitarists to continue the tradition of the flamenco guitar as a solo concert instrument, following in the footsteps of Ramon Montoya and Sabicas. Grisha made his debut at the age of 9, then played as a ‘child prodigy’ in renowned concert halls in St. Petersburg, Moscow and Riga and appeared regularly on Soviet television. He later studied classical guitar with Eliot Fisk in Boston. After a tour of Spain, he played for Paco de Lucia, who personally campaigned for his artist's visa for the USA. In addition to the works of flamenco greats such as Paco de Lucia, Vicente Amigo and Rafael Riqueni, he also integrates classical repertoire into his concerts. In 2006, Grisha was appointed a fellow of the Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowship. His YouTube videos now reach more than 10 million people.

Today he often plays as a duo with Johannes Monno. Olaf taught at the Akademie für Tonkunst Darmstadt and at the Musikhochschule Hamburg and was co-editor of the new K. Scheit Edition (UE). Olaf likes crime novels, comics and French films. French films. He loves German white and Italian red wines and enjoys savouring them over a delicious dinner.

Marco Ramelli (*1984) is a lecturer at the TU Dublin Conservatoire and approaches music with curiosity and a spirit of enquiry. He has performed internationally as a soloist and chamber musician in many major concert halls. He has also recorded several albums, including the guitar music of R. Gerhard and F. Mompou and transcriptions of Mompou's piano music. Winning the composition competition in Serbia also made him famous as a composer. His works are performed by leading soloists such as Sean Shibe, Lorenzo Micheli and Andrea De Vitis. Marco organises a number of research symposia worldwide and is a member of the steering committee of the Festival of Music Performance Research (Dublin) and the TU Dublin Research Symposium. In 2018, he was honoured with the ‘Golden Guitar’ award during the Michele Pittaluga International Guitar Conference.

Thomas Müller-Pering (* 1958 in Cologne) was a prizewinner at the ARD Competition in 1982 and in Viña del Mar (Chile) in 1983. He has been travelling the world for concerts and masterclasses for over 30 years now. One of his most recent projects was an invitation from the Globe Theatre Society to perform Henze's ‘Royal Winter Music I & II’ in Los Angeles. Since 1994 he has been a professor at the Franz Liszt University of Music Weimar, where he has continued to work since his retirement in 2024. He was also a lecturer at the Berlin University of the Arts for almost 20 years. His incredibly rich concert repertoire ranges from baroque, classical and Spanish romanticism to modern music. What does Thomas do alongside his family and work? ‘I love history, technology, biographies, crime novels - mainly Scandinavian authors - audiobooks, languages, cultures...and I'm trying (so far in vain, T.H.'s note) to travel a little less and be on the road...’

Carlo Marchione (born in Rome in 1964) is at home on stages all over the world. With his CD recording of Telemann's 12 violin fantasies, Marchione established his reputation as an expert in Baroque performance practice and is considered one of the most important musical personalities on the guitar. His performances of Italian music are also legendary, not least Mauro Giuliani's great Rossini cycles. He teaches at the MHS in Maastricht and holds visiting professorships in Rome, Lille and Seville. And in Carlo's free time? "I love immersing myself in videos featuring the best conductors or travelling to the most exciting cities for music (e.g. Vienna, including Wiener Schnitzel!). And as an Italian, I naturally love cooking in all its variations. When it comes to my life, I like to quote Confucius: “If you have a job you love, you never have to work a day in your life.” That's exactly how I feel!"

Tilman Hoppstock (born 1961) has been at home on stages around the world for over 40 years. As early as 1983/84, concerts took him to London, Paris, New York, San Francisco, Montreal, Tokyo, Mexico City, Singapore and many other cities with over a million inhabitants. He received invitations to the Royal Academy (London), the Manhattan School of Music, the University of South California (Los Angeles) and held a visiting professorship at the University of Piteå (Sweden) from 2003 to 2005. His approximately 40 CDs have received several international awards. In 2013, T.H. was awarded the Darmstadt Music Prize for his life's work. With three book publications on Bach's lute works (one as a doctoral thesis), he has also gained an international reputation as a musicologist. Tilman Hoppstock teaches an international master class at the Academy of Music in Darmstadt.

Carlo Marchione (*1964 in Rom) ist auf allen Bühnen der Welt zuhause. Mit seiner CD-Aufnahme der 12 Violinfantasien von Telemann begründete Marchione seinen Ruf als Kenner barocker Aufführungspraxis und gilt als einer der wichtigsten Musikerpersönlich-keiten auf der Gitarre. Legendär sind auch seine Aufführungen italienischer Musik, nichtzuletzt die großen Rossinianazyklen Mauro Giulianis. Er unterrichtet an der MHS in Maastricht und hat Gastprofessuren in Rom, Lille und Sevilla. Und in Carlos Freizeit? “Ich liebe es, mich in Videos mit den besten Dirigenten zu vertiefen oder die spannendsten Musikstädte zu bereisen (z. B. Wien, inkl. Wiener Schnitzel!). Und als Italiener liebe ich natürlich Kochen in allen Varianten. Bezogen auf mein Leben zitiere ich gerne Confucius: ‘Wenn du einen Job hast, den du liebst, dann brauchst du nicht mehr zu arbeiten.’ Genauso geht es mir!“

Mit drei Buchveröffentlichungen über die Lautenwerke Bachs (eine als Promotion zum Dr. phil.) hat er sich zudem als Musikwissenschaftler einen internationalen Ruf erworben. Tilman Hoppstock unterichtet eine internationale Meisterklasse an der Akademie für Tonkunst in Darmstadt.
